When it comes to remodeling the kitchen, homeowners tend to take the time needed to plan out every nitty gritty detail (and if they don’t, their designer does).  Style and layout, as well as function, blend to make up the perfect space.  That’s the kind of effort we love to see when it comes to all other areas of your home as well, especially the bathroom.

If we had to pinpoint the most interesting part of a kitchen remodel, it would have to be the part where we’re able to see the homeowners’ styles emerge.  While some know right off the bat that their style is traditional, modern or [insert your own favorite style here], it is not out of the norm to have no clue.  In fact, it’s quite common.

Remember the days before computers when you had to actually look through a phonebook, consult with friends and family, or just plain stumble upon the store you were looking for?  Not only was it a process to find the store, but you had to then cross your fingers and hope it was worthy of your business…or else it was off to the next one in the phonebook.

Until the last decade, bathrooms have consisted of primarily a tub and/or shower, sink cabinet, and a tile floor. Some bathrooms had windows and most relied upon dressing room light fixtures. Bathroom improvements primarily consisted of adding higher quality wood vanities with a few metal or glass decorative elements and large mirrors. Homes with more space could invest in a larger, luxurious tub and include a bidet or a glass shower cabinet. However, the bathroom always operated on its own - an individual uni.

There are so many small details that go into remodeling a kitchen. Choosing wood finish, fixtures and new appliances are all things that will make a huge difference in the space, but so will your new kitchen’s backsplash.

If you’re not too keen on fully traditional kitchen styles and you’re not quite ready for the simple, clean designs that contemporary styles portray, is all hope lost?  Of course not.  Not only do people take elements from many design styles when creating the plan for their kitchens, but there are also styles that are happy mediums – like transitional.

Cabinets, countertops, appliances, hardware, flooring, lighting, paint…done.  Not so fast…there’s something missing.  It’s not completely necessary, but anyone who has ever had one will likely never go without one in any future remodels.  That’s because in addition to complimenting other features, this missing piece also serves another purpose.

Not every closet out there will be as small as the one we remember from our college dorm rooms, and isn’t that a relief! As your wardrobe and home square footage expand, it’s time to let yourself have a closet that gets a little bigger too.

Imagine this scenario – you walk into a lovely kitchen with new cabinets, granite countertops, and sleek appliances.  This is a model kitchen and you are in love with the modern look and feel…and then you look up.  Popcorn ceilings cover the area above you, and you are left with the feeling that it’s the 1950’s.

One part of a bathroom remodel that seems like it should be easy is painting the walls. Simple enough, right? Grab a gallon of paint, get your brush ready and go to town. Well, it’s a little more complicated than that. We’re not saying it’s rocket science, but there are a few things you should remember before you grab any ol’ paint from the store.
